Clothes, shoes, and electronics are some of a teenager’s favorite things.
“I spend my money at a bunch of stores like Brandy Melville and Pacsun,” says Isabella Recla (‘29). “ I shop online and in person equally, because you can get some things online that you can’t get in person, and vice versa.”
One online store that many teens buy
from is Amazon; you can buy almost anything you want and it will arrive at your home in the span of only a few days. Amazon’s stock can include things such as games, beauty or skincare products, clothes, necessities, and much more.
“I do a lot of online shopping,” says Avery Buczek (‘29). “I spend my money on stores like Brandy Melville, Edikted, and Amazon. I shop a lot. I just bought myself a purse off of Amazon.”
But not all Skyline students spend all of their money. According to a limited Skyline Post survey, 87.5% save at least some of their money, and 12.5% don’t save their money. While saving is good, it can be hard to control your wants.
Jordan Wells (‘29) says that he spends most of his money on “food, online stores, drinks, and sometimes other people.”

Where do Skyline students get their spending money from? In Michigan, the legal age to start working is 14 years old, but most 14 year olds do not work because it’s hard to get a job locally until you are 16.
57.5% of students report that they get their money from their parents, 25% of students get their money from their job, and 17.5% of students get their money in other ways. Popular responses also included birthday money, saving from gifts, and chores.
