With many highly anticipated movies coming out and many teens looking to spend time with friends, the movies are looking like the perfect place to hang out this summer.
Scary Movie — June 5th

Another entry in a classic franchise, Scary Movie is a movie for fans of both horror and dark comedy and is set to parody many modern horror movies and shows including Sinners, Weapons, M3GAN, A Quiet Place, Stranger Things, The Substance, Smile, Get Out, Nope, Wednesday, Heart Eyes, and more. As an avid horror and comedy fan, I personally am really excited for this movie because I really enjoyed the jokes of the first four movies. However, the humor can be pretty offensive to many different groups of people and definitely may not be for everyone.
Masters of the Universe — June 5th

The first live-action He-Man movie, Masters of the Universe is an action-packed origin story where a young Prince Adam Glenn, also known as He-Man (played by Nicholas Galitzine), flees his home of Eternia in the wake of a war. He is separated from the Power Sword, which allows him to transform into He-Man. 20 years later he must return to his homeland of Eternia to fight the evil forces of Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. The movie is looking to be fun but possibly very simple. Also, almost every movie with Jared Leto in recent memory has flopped, so we’ll just have to see.
Supergirl — June 26th

A new entry in the DC Universe, Supergirl stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, who with the help of her super powered dog Krypto, makes a journey of self discovery across the stars to discover her people. Along the way she encounters many different people and creatures including Lobo, played by Jason Momoa. DC Movies are very famous for not being very good, but as most people I know who’ve seen the newest Superman can tell, this new DC Universe reboot is definitely shaping up to the hype.
The Odyssey — July 17th

Award winning director Christopher Nolan, the director of many critically acclaimed movies such as Oppenheimer, Interstellar, and Inception, returns with another highly anticipated movie. The Odyssey is a movie adaptation of the eponymous poem the Odyssey, which is attributed to an ancient Greek poet, Homer. Based on one of the oldest surviving poems, it follows Odysseus (Matt Damon), the king of a mythological island in ancient Greece named Ithaca, while he makes the voyage back home 10 years after the Trojan War. He encounters many monsters of Greek legend and other threats along the way. I have really high hopes for this movie seeing that it’s directed by Christopher Nolan, since I enjoyed all of his other movies. There’s always a chance it gets botched as an adaptation, but I’m really hoping that it will at least stand on its own two legs.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day — July 31st

A brand new Spider-Man trilogy dawns on July 31st! Starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Zendaya as his ex-girlfriend MJ, the movie follows Peter Parker four years after he magically erases his name from the public in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He did this with the help of Doctor Strange, to protect his secret identity when he was outed by villain Mysterio. Peter, a 20-something nobody who lives alone and works full-time as Spider-Man, starts to undergo new mutations while fighting a new powerful threat. This is one of my most anticipated movies this summer and I’m expecting great things from it as a huge Spider-Man fan.
Overall, with all of these movies and even more that I didn’t have room to touch on, this summer is shaping up to be an insane season for movies.
