Olivia Rodrigo has just announced her new album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl so in Love, and it will be released on June 12, 2026. Fans are very excited and are already speculating what some of the songs might be like. Many assume that it will be similar to Scared of my Guitar from the GUTS (spilled) album, which talks a lot about being sad and in love, which would fit right in with the new album’s title.
Rodrigo has been hinting at dropping a new album for a while. One of the biggest hints that let fans know an album was coming was the mural on March 13: a wall in Los Angeles was painted the signature Olivia Rodrigo (OR) purple with a new version of the OR label. After that day, every night a team would come and repaint the wall a new color. By March 20, the wall was light pink, with the OR label at the front replaced with the word love.

After all of the hints, fans had many theories about the new album. Some people thought it would be called “LUCK” and would have come out on Saint Patrick’s day, while some thought it would come out on April Fool’s and be called “FOOL.”
Many thought her new album was going to be similar to the past records. With some songs being more rock and some songs being slower, all of Rodrigo’s songs have always highlighted the highs and lows of being a teenager. The albums address relationships, break ups, and friendships.
Rodrigo released her first album, SOUR, at 18 years old on May 21, 2021.This album contains some of her biggest hits, including “Traitor”, “DejaVu”, “Jealousy Jealousy”, and most memorably, “Drivers License”. It was well received by many people, including myself, since it was able to capture the emotions of being a teenager, such as Brutal which has themes of how hard it was to be a teenager, and slower songs like Traitor, focusing on the hard reality of teenage relationships. Fans didn’t think the new album would be super similar to this first album, since it has been a few years since she wrote this album and it will probably write less about teenage topics.
Rodrigo released her next album, GUTS, at age 20 on September 8, 2023. She then released an extended version called GUTS (spilled) on March 22, 2024. This new version included five more songs, which was once again very well received by the public. The most-played song of the album was “Vampire” because it was relatable. “Vampire” is about looking back at a relationship and your ex. Some other songs that were popular from the album were “Lacy”, “Get Him Back!” and “Bad Idea Right?”. I thought that the album was great. Some of my favorites were “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl”, “Scared of my Guitar”, “Girl I’ve Always Been,” and “Stranger”. Fans thought the new album would follow similar sounds and have the same title style to the GUTS (spilled) album.
The title of the new album is ten words long, straying from the four letter titles of the past albums. The change in the style supports what Olivia Rodrigo says about the new album having “new sounds” and “new stories”, according to ELLE magazine.
I love all of her past music and how it really showed her emotions while still being upbeat. I hope she continues to do this in the new album. However, I think whatever direction she goes in the new album it will still be good.
