Red Dead Redemption 2, made by Rockstar Games in 2018, is still a popular game today despite its age. It has many underlying lessons that can be learned if you follow closely.
I love this game for the little fine details throughout the story as a whole and everything in between. The first thing I noticed was the character you play as, Arthur Morgan. I really like him and how he progresses throughout the story. The game makes him feel so real. He starts off as a gunslinging outlaw in the Van Der Linde gang. Arthur is mostly unapologetic and ruthless in what he does at first and as the player progresses through the story, we discover his regrets for the harmful actions he’s committed.
The gang is led by Dutch Van der Linde, a seemingly very smart, aspirational and inspirational leader. A main aspect is how he always talks about how they are going to live great lives and prosper underneath his leadership. Van der Linde is the perfect embodiment of narcissism. He always says “I have a plan” when he clearly lacks one, but if anyone voices their disapproval he becomes angry towards them. I love how the game shows him gradually breaking down as he becomes more desperate, adding a touch to his development that makes his character feel advanced.
Another thing that I enjoyed about the game was the lesson of redemption – hence the name. Arthur turns into a man that is desperate to seek purpose and ultimately redeems himself through good actions to make up for his misdeeds.
However, there are some problems with the game too: it can get really buggy at times, which makes it harder to play and makes the movement clunky. For example, when you are in a chase, you are likely to hit a tree with your horse and get caught or even ride off a cliff as a result of the faulty controls.
Overall, this is a game that is worth the time to play. It is really fun. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in an open world wild west game. People who love a good well written story, this is definitely the game for you.
