Warning, this article will contain subtle spoilers for Tears of the Kingdom, as a sequel.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is the newest game of the Legend of Zelda franchise that was released on November 6th, 2025. Age of Imprisonment was a highly anticipated game that many fans of the Zelda series looked forward to as new trailers were released over time.
The storyline of the game is revealed to be a sequel to the game Tears of the Kingdom, following the moment that Zelda fell into the abyss and travelled back in time. As a result of waking up in the middle of a field, she is discovered by the King and Queen of Hyrule, Rauru and Sonia. They begin to take care of her and help her discover the world around her and learn to strengthen her light magic before finding a way back home. As the story progresses, the plot develops into finding a way to defeat the Chief Leader of the Gerudo race, Ganondorf, by gathering the sages of each race in order to lead a full scale attack on him.
There were new character aspects to the game that were introduced as well, such as a newer version of the main character. Instead of Link being the main view that the player gets to experience, the gameplay undergoes a split point of view storyline by playing as Zelda and a mysterious character that we call Construct. This introduction of split point-of-view storytelling opens a new perspective into The Legend of Zelda story. The aspect of adding new information to the timelines may be enjoyed for players who like to follow the storylines, expanding upon the reincarnation lore between the Hero of Hyrule and the recurring villain of each game, Ganon.
The graphics are extremely smooth, with visually appealing movements and actions that have little to no lag. Each assigned mission is simple with guidance on how to attack with multiple different combos and moves throughout the tutorial. While fighting in gameplay, the player is granted the ability to switch between different characters, such as Rauru or Sonia, granting different moves and attack levels that are extremely useful in terms of close and long range battles. The max amount of characters the player can switch between is two or three, typically being the characters that are present with you within the story. Each character is given a different range of attack based on the weapons or light magic they are designed to have, Zelda and Construct having more close-range attacks, while Rauru has longer ranged attacks with his light magic.
Overall, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is a good game if you enjoy the Legend of Zelda franchise. I believe this is a game perfectly suited for the fans of the series, regardless of age.
