As you may have experienced, it can be very overwhelming to be a high schooler. Many students are athletes or participate in extracurricular activities, and that can become very stressful. Many members of the Skyline community say that the best way they manage their time is with study habits and a schedule.
“I feel like if you put your mind to stuff, you can really unlock anything that you really want your future to be,” says Math teacher Nicholas Bertsos. “It just takes a little bit of hard work, which is not necessarily the best or most enjoyable way to spend your time.”
Managing your time as a student can be challenging for many. When students don’t have a good way to manage their time, which can cause them to become overworked. When students do have good time management, it can help them be their best selves in school and extracurriculars.
Coming from the article “8 time management tips for students” from Harvard Summer School “Each person’s day-to-day is different and unique to them, so make sure your schedule works for you. Once you’ve accounted for consistent commitments such as classes or your shifts at work, add in study sessions, extracurriculars, chores and errands, and social engagements.”
The “time management tips” are to create a calendar, set reminders, build a personalized schedule, use tools that work for you, prioritize, make time to have fun, find support, and be realistic and flexible.
Having a set time for school work, sports, and other extracurriculars can definitely help you stay organized and keep you from getting overwhelmed.
“I just have a set time for homework every night. I usually do it towards the very end of the day, says Grace Weeter (‘29). “So before I go to bed, I’ll do my homework, that’s one way I stay organized. Just trying to keep it consistent throughout the week, so I don’t run out of time.”
Having a distraction-free space to work that can keep you from getting distracted can improve your focus while studying.
“I like to do my school work in my family room on the floor, because it’s a big room and when I’m on the floor, there’s nothing around me, so there’s no distraction,” says Ov Serlin (‘28).
