In my opinion, the top three songs of this year are It’s Ok, I’m Ok by Tate McRae, Please Please Please by Sabrina Carpenter, and 15 Minutes by Madison Beer.
Tate McRae’s It’s Ok, I’m Ok is my overall favorite song of the year because it is very catchy. It has a fun beat, and the lyrics are relatable. During the song, McRae says, “And she be like, ‘He’s so perfect’ I be like, ‘Oh, what version?’” and “I don’t want him anyway, girl, take him.” A lot of girls can relate to these lyrics because they have to do with having an ex boyfriend.
Sabrina Carpenter’s Please Please Please is my second favorite song because Carpenter’s vocals in it are amazing. She always sounds really good, but I specifically noticed how strong her voice is in this particular song. In Please Please Please, Carpenter sings the bridge, “If you don’t wanna cry to my music, don’t make me hate you prolifically.” Her vocals were great throughout the whole song, but this part specifically stands out to me because she is able to hit the high notes while staying on pitch. Every time I listen to that part, I get the chills.
Madison Beer’s 15 Minutes is my third favorite song because I love the dark style. I typically like all pop songs, but I prefer listening to the ones with a darker, moodier tune. In 15 Minutes, Beer says “15 minutes ago, I was layin’ in bed, Then I had a crazy thought in my head, So I took the keys and got in the car.” These lyrics go well with the tempo of the song and have a darker vibe.
I asked a few Skyline students about which music artist they prefer out of these three, and a lot of teens listen to Carpenter’s upbeat music. “I think Sabrina Carpenter’s music is fun,” says Veronica Prozinski (‘28). “and a lot of my friends listen to her so I can listen with them.”
Some teens prefer to listen to McRae instead of Carpenter. “I like the beats of Tate McRae’s music,” says Lu Bertelson (‘28), “and I feel like I can relate to her lyrics more.”
Beer isn’t as popular as McRae or Carpenter, but a lot of teenagers love her melancholy music. “I like Madison Beer’s music because of the lyrics and how sad a lot of her songs are,” says Gabi Marble (‘26). “I really like her song called Blue.”
In Carpenter’s song Espresso, she says “I’m working late, ‘cause I’m a singer.” In my opinion, McRae, Carpenter, and Beer have all been working late, and it’s paying off. All three of these amazing music artists are really making the pop industry even better. McRae is able to relate to her listeners with her lyrics, Carpenter knows how to produce fun, upbeat, catchy music, and Beer knows how to make people feel emotions.
