“The photo was me and my squad carrying our boat back up to the slings after the race. It was a four person sweeping race. The boat had some good friends in it: … Jack who is a junior member on the team [and] Pablo who’s a sophomore, and they’re both really good rowers. I think the other person was Jay who is a novice, he’s also a very good rower. In that moment I was probably a little relieved to get off the water because fours are not my favorite race. I preferred quads which are with two oars instead of one but overall I was probably feeling pretty good because I thought the race went well. [I got involved with crew because] I thought it would be the easiest [sport], like a normal boat down a river or something but it turns out it was one of the hardest.”
