The first 60-degree days of the year are loading, and you know what that means: time to get excited for Spring Break. Everyone is running around, asking each other where they are going, and getting those social media stories ready. I myself am looking forward to visiting family and friends down in my home state of South Carolina.
But that got me thinking: not everyone at Skyline travels for break.
So, what’s everyone in town up to?
I think we can all agree that everyone at school could use a nap. “It really all starts with rest, that’s my main goal,” says Will Powers (‘26). “Just focusing on getting a lot of sleep.”
Stay at home activities are quickly becoming a fan favorite. “My spring break plans are to do home renovations,” says Skyline’s own English teacher Christopher Cole. “Going to do the backyard, get a garden out there, as well as a chicken coop. This is my husband’s first time having a chicken coop so we’re pretty excited about that and then redoing the downstairs bathroom.”
Besides the outdoors, jobs and sports keep others busy. “I will be staying home and working,” says Allison Marquardt (‘27).
Outside of pastimes, for many of Skyline’s seniors, the transition to college and university is coming up soon. A key activity while making final decisions: college campus tours!
Many seniors are also polishing final applications: a good number of Michigan schools are still accepting applications. Washtenaw Community College and Western Michigan both have rolling admissions that are still open. UM Dearborn’s final deadline for some programs is May 15. And Michigan State’s final regular application deadline is April 1.
Sports teams like Crew and Lacrosse will be heating up in time for Spring. “I’m on the rowing team so we have to stay here for spring break.” says Andrew Hewko (‘26). “We have two practices a day and it’s our most important time of the season.” Another vacation classic: Video Games still remain among the top of everyone’s list.
When asked about the break, a few of our Skyline Alumni mentioned what they are looking forward to: “Honestly, nothing. Just working out, playing NBA 2K and hanging out with my friends,” says Isaiah Turner (‘27). Joe Tobias (‘29) adds, “I’m going to stay at home and play Minecraft and maybe go to the mall with my friends.”
Have an amazing Spring Break, Skyline!
