Are you someone who likes to listen to music that tells a story? A fan of melancholic songs that make you want to cry a little? A Mitski enjoyer?
Well, you’re in luck: Mitski released a two-track single featuring two songs from her newest album Nothing’s About to Happen to Me.
Mitski’s new album is scheduled to drop on February 27th, 2026. In the meantime, she created a single named after one of the songs in Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, featuring “I’ll Change For You” and “Where’s My Phone?,” to sneak peek at what her upcoming album about an isolated woman may be like. But here’s what I wondered when Mitski released this single: how does this single prepare us for her new album? Will she leave us high and dry, or will she take everyone’s breath away?
Starting off with the song the single is named after, “I’ll Change For You,” you can very much tell that this is a Mitski song, which is both a good thing and a bit of a bad thing at the same time. It’s almost like I’ve heard a song like this from her before due to the melody sounding so distinct. However, it’s still a beautiful song with a soft, catchy instrumental and vocals that are strong and powerful but go down smoothly.

Her second song, “Where’s My Phone?” in the single is my personal favorite. It took a moment for me to be hooked around the beginning, but once the first verse began to play, I was invested. The vibe of the song crescendos from feeling worried to borderline going insane. It creates a metaphor in the song: how Mitski losing her phone is equivalent to losing her mind. I liked that vibe, because they made it catchy and really investing.

Overall, the single was a great 6 minute experience. Based on the fluidity of the vocals and how amazing the instrumentals are, you can tell a lot of effort was put into these songs. I also love how the music videos were produced, with fun effects that almost give a nostalgic vibe.
If these two songs are the ones being featured early, then I’m excited for the songs that we haven’t even heard yet. I expect amazing songs like these two, if not amazing, then better. This album is most definitely worth listening to and worth your time.
