“I started writing poetry when I was 12, and I started writing it originally because it was …just a really good way to get out emotions, whether they were negative or positive. I’ve always struggled with being able to use my words to express how I felt, so I found it easier to bring in my emotions using metaphors, similes, rhyming, just a lot of poetry devices, especially because I grew up reading Edgar Allan Poe. I ended up writing a lot like he would, but it basically just was something that helped me communicate how I felt, whether it was …feeling affection for someone, whether it was something happy, whether it was something sad, it was just a really good way for me to be able to fully extend how I felt about anything, and it was…a really good communication device, and I found that it was something I really enjoyed. So, as a result, I just decided to write poetry as a hobby.”
