Trigger Warning: alcoholism, war, abuse, child neglect
Cookie Run: Kingdom is a mobile game worth playing with an action packed storyline, loot boxes where cookies leave the oven they were baked in, and tough challenges including battles that might make your cookies crumble. While being very beginner friendly, it isn’t a game you can easily win. It’s for those who like visual stories, engage in strategic battles, enjoy collecting characters, and both for hardcore and easygoing players.
Before playing: During the creation of your account, players have to join one of the three servers into which they won’t be able to add others in different servers. This is important to note if a player wants to grow their account along with a friend.
After escaping the witches who crave them, cookies must fight to survive. White Lilly Cookie had fallen into the ultimate dough. She was cooked alive by the witches and transformed into Dark Enchantress Cookie. Her motive had formed into yearning for eternal night. With her new dark magic, she wants revenge on the witches for creating cookies only to eat them while ruling the world of cookies. The Dark Flour war began at the fall of the ancient heroes, one once White Lilly Cookie. Years later, Gingerbrave and his friends start their journey to stop evil by finding the ancient heroes and reconnecting them to their destiny. Once they reunite, new forces of evil beg to take control, Beast cookies. Being a half of each ancient hero, the Beast cookies attempt to unite with their parallel to grant them greater power.
To get more scenes for the very well written main plot, players must battle NPCs (non playable characters). There are also opportunities for players to use their cookies in battle, such as Guild Battle, cake towers, Kingdom Arena, Cookie Alliance, and other temporary battles that might be included in an update which are often hit and miss. These battles can be strenuous but it’s definitely fun to try and get the quickest time and best rewards.
There is a lot of freedom within the game which is why it’s worth playing. When a player first starts their kingdom, they have a small area in which they decorate while making items they’ll need for quests. The more items players create, the more they expand their kingdom to reveal more areas. This is a boring process, but the more a player’s kingdom is decorated, the more decor points they obtain to claim more rewards.
Not only are kingdoms customizable, but so are their cookies! Cookies can be leveled up for battle with their individual unique skills, wear cute costumes, and put on a team among other cookies. While the characters can be customized, players can also customize their own cookie avatar. They can use the gacha to get items for designing their character. Being able to design a cookie avatar is fun, however it feels pretty limited and could’ve been created to be more inclusive.
All the stories are skippable if the player isn’t interested in the writing, but they can also go back and read them if wanted. If you like RPGs (Roleplay games), story-heavy games, or any other games in the Cookie Run series, you’d definitely like Cookie Run: Kingdom. If you’re not into time-consuming games, you probably wouldn’t enjoy playing. The age recommendation should be rated 12+ because the storyline has a lot of fantasy violence.
