In March, 2017, The Nintendo Switch was launched, and is now a highly beloved console for players across the world.
The Switch was the first ever hybrid console, functioning as both a home console and a portable handheld device.
Prior to the release, some Nintendo players, like myself, believed the Nintendo system had some major flaws that needed to be fixed. The console as the public began to complain about a few of the flaws with the Nintendo Switch’s design.
The original Switch was quite dysfunctional when it came to its basic features; such as the controls, charging, and wifi. It’s more fragile than it looks, even though the exterior is visually appealing to the eye. But in reality, the original Nintendo Switch’s functions and performance were not the best.
The Nintendo Switch’s contained errors, which are incredibly short battery life. Plus, the controls easily break apart after two years. There was also a limited amount of storage for the games you play on the first Nintendo Switch, and more.
Five years later, on June 5th, 2025, the new Nintendo Switch 2 was finally ready to release into the world. People were wary about the console, since it costs up to $500. But eventually, Gamers, Youtubers, and one of my friends decided to buy the console later in the year.
The Nintendo Switch 2 was made to enhance performance. Aiming to be a more powerful “Better Switch” by adding new features and improving core hardware. It even incorporates new Switch 2 Edition game updates for better graphics/content on the new device.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is an updated version of the Nintendo Switch 1, with bigger and better qualities. Such as the controls, which are smoother and so much easier to control. The visuals on the screen are clearer and the internet doesn’t disconnect when I was playing the new Mario Kart world’s game. As well as the GameChat box which I find very interesting. Once I used it, I was thrilled to hear all of the players that I made friends with and it was so fun to use.
The screen has a setting that goes up to vivid 1080p screen and 4k output, meaning that the console can work up to the highest visuals on your screens as clearly as your high priced T.V. screen. You don’t have to worry about long loading screens anymore.
Say goodbye to playing in silence! Players can now speak to each other through the new microphone in the system.
There is now more storage space for the new Nintendo Switch games and you can also install the original games from your Nintendo Switch into the Nintendo Switch 2.
After its release there was a ton of debate between Nintendo Switch players all across America about whether the Nintendo Switch 2 is worth buying. During this time, Nintendo Switch 2’s first game was released, “Mario Kart Worlds.” At first the public had no idea how this game and the console would function. Naturally people were wary about spending just as much as the price of a PS5.
A lot of people actually loved the improved performance, but some expressed disappointment that it feels like a safe Switch Pro rather than a true next generational leap. Common complaints focus on shorter battery life, screen blur, and a perceived slow rollout of truly next-gen games.
Skyline English 2 Teacher, Ms. Eaton after getting her Nintendo Switch 2 compared her point of view of the Nintendo Switch 2 with the Nintendo Switch 1 stating, “The First Game console was good, it was perfect, but the Nintendo Switch 2 though, it’s just as great but at the same time, it’s the same thing as the original.”
Game reviews are really loving the screen performance. I love it too. The console has such a high quality view that it feels like we are inserted into the game itself. It’s a very satisfactory experience.
With Mario Kart World gameplay, this console is as fun as the original, but better. It is very entertaining to see and actually hear players get competitive in the game. Seeing this encourages me to look forward to the many new games and buying the console in the future such as Mario Tennis Fever (Feb 12) and Pokémon Pokopia (March 5).In my opinion, the Nintendo Switch 2 is absolutely worth it, I love the new settings and the qualities of the game. I know it’ll take time to fully understand how this works but so far, I am loving the new update on this console.
