Just a couple of months ago, Tyler, the Creator’s next move in music was released. On June 21, 2025, Tyler released his 9th official album, DON’T TAP THE GLASS, and also shared the story behind it.
Tyler’s motive seems to be getting people to dance and escape judgment. From Goblin to DON’T TAP THE GLASS, the songs and albums just progressively get better, with each song having different tones.. Each beat gives a new life to a new melody with the mixture of R&B, funk, and synth-pop.
The album’s introduction is “Big Poe.” It has a message encouraging listeners to get up and dance. He promotes this by telling the listener “no sitting still” and to “dance, bro,” while asking later on if they “wanna get loud.” This track has a great combination of hip-hop and drum beats.
Up next is “Sugar On My Tongue”. The rhythm has a great representation of Upbeat music, and gives us a boost of hype and excitement from the beat drops.
Next comes “Sucka Free.” with the meaning of resisting the urge of worldly temptations and knowing his worth in the music world: “You are the type of guy to buy a chain before some furniture couch.” The song wasn’t anything over the top, but still fantastic, and I highly recommend listening to it.
“Mommanem” is a hard-hitting rap that is enjoyable due to its intense beats and lyrics. It really gives off great momentum.
Then the 5th song, “Stop Playing With Me,” continues from Mommanem, which shows off a lot of emotion and aggression. It is also sung with a passion for knowing who he was: “Hated recess, I don’t play no games.”
Both 1st and 2nd halves of the album have great music. Starting the second half is “Ring Ring Ring,” its rhythm for rap was great. And the sample he uses from All in the Way You Get Down was a smart move: its beats connect so well with the lyrics.
“Don’t Tap That Glass/Tweakin’” has a “party hard” type of vibe. The beats and lyrics give off a lot of movement. Not much to discuss, other than it being pleasant, with its fast pace
One of the last three, ”Don’t You Worry Baby,” has instrumentation that is something worth mentioning: the drums, bass, and piano gave it great tuning that gives a lot of energy.
“I’ll Take Care Of You” gives a different atmosphere compared to the other songs on the album: a smooth feeling, almost like it was trying to represent something beautiful and encouraging too.
Last but not least, we have “Tell Me What It Is.” The song was definitely great, and the melody was amazing. Before ending the album, Tyler sings one last message about loneliness after losing love, a new start of finding love, and a final goodbye at the end of the album.
I think this album is highly recommended listening to, this album showcases what Tyler, The Creator is all about: a weird, unique, incredible artist. Even if you haven’t listened to Tyler yet, this album would be a great place to start.
8/10
