The Men’s Baseball team is currently in pre-season, with tryouts scheduled for the week of March 10th.
This year both JV and Varsity will have new coaches, coach Joe Tomassi for JV who was hired during the season last year. And coach Kyle Cornell, who is new to the team for Varsity. “I’m really excited to have coach Joe this season,” Brendan Sukenic (‘27). “He is an excellent, very inspiring, nice and motivating coach.”
As the season comes closer, many freshmen are preparing for tryouts. “There have been a lot more practices during pre-season compared to my travel team,” said Ben Cox (‘28). “I have felt much better going into tryouts after getting a feel for the team and I improve after every practice with my new coaches.”
This year due to Skyline’s extended 2nd Trimester, many spring sports have tryouts the same week as finals. “I’m excited for tryouts because it means another year of baseball although I’m a little bit anxious just because a spot on the team isn’t always guaranteed,” said Sukenic (‘27). “With finals my main priority will be studying but baseball will be a close second.”
This year the team had five seniors which they lost although many freshmen are wishing to join the team to fill their places. “Last year we had five seniors graduate,” said Caleb Raymond (‘25). “The team dynamic has not changed much because tryouts are still waiting to happen.”
So far the team has had consistent practices to prepare players for tryouts “This year Skyline baseball has workouts on Tuesday and Thursday along with hitting and pitching practice on Saturdays and Wednesdays,” said Raymond (‘25). “Players practice in groups of four with a coach and players have to sign up for them.”
