After winning The National Championship this past January, Jim Harbaugh left his spot as head coach of Michigan and signed a “five year contract as the new head coach of the NFL Los Angeles Chargers,” as ESPN reports.

Many Skyline students were not very surprised by this news, mainly because Harbaugh had been coaching at Michigan for a while. “I was sad but not very surprised,” said Molly Greenberg (‘26). “I sort of expected it after winning the national championship, because I felt like his job was sort of done and he completed what he needed to do and his next task is in the pros.”

Head Coach Sherron Moore quickly stepped up and signed a contract for head coach. “ESPN stated,  “He was previously the offensive coordinator, and head coach while Jim Harbaugh served his four game suspensions.”

Not many people are worried about this change. “I honestly don’t really know if it will impact the team negatively or positively,” said Julianna Bailey (‘26). “I think that also depends a lot on the layers and who left and who’s still there.”

Greenberg is not too concerned by the upcoming changes and thinks Sherron was a great decision. “I think our new head coach was for sure the right choice, and while it may be a tough start … Coach Moore will jump in when needed and I think within a year or two the same Michigan team beating everyone will be back and better,” said Greenberg.

Mason Stagner (26’), currently a part of the Skyline Eagles Varsity Football team, said he is a little worried about Moore’s first year. “I think the first year Michigan team will be negatively impacted but I think they will mesh after the season.”

Harbuagh retired as head coach with an impressive record of 86-25, helping contribute to his overall record of 144-42 at the collegiate level. One big milestone he accomplished was being the coach of the first Michigan team to win a National Title since 1997. He also achieved three consecutive wins over their rival, Ohio State during his coaching time at Michigan.
