Gilmore Girls
Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls is a heartwarming 2000’s show, following the lives of a young mom, Lorelai Gilmore, and her teenage daughter, Rory Gilmore. It is set in their New England town, Stars Hollow, and takes them through the good and bad times in life. It is a very witty show, with a good mix of drama and dialog. Rory is a quiet, smart girl with quite a few love interests. Lorelai is strong willed and stubborn and wants nothing more than to see her daughter succeed. In the first season, Rory is accepted into an elitist private school, Chilton. Lorelai has to come up with the money for it somehow, which is when Rory’s grandparents are introduced. Lorelai puts aside her pride and rocky history with them and asks them to pay for it. “I like Gilmore Girls because it’s a really good comfort show and it makes me think of fall,” said Olivia Haft (‘25). It’s perfect for a night in!

Friends
Friends

This silly ‘90s comedy is about the life of six friends living in Manhattan, after college. They go through basically every life experience together, happy and sad. One of the most popular shows of its time, with divorces, marriages, and everything in between, Friends is the perfect mix of heartbreak and heartwarming. Each episode is like a mini-story, but they all revolve around the evolving lives of these six friends.  “I like watching Friends because it’s super funny and I like watching it when I have nothing to do,” said Estelle Haft (‘25). This is the perfect show for anyone who likes rom-coms and is looking for a funny, sweet show to watch on cold nights.

Stranger Things
Stranger Things

This show is definitely more intense and maybe not so comforting.  Set in the 80s, this SciFi fantasy follows the lives of the people living in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. When a nearby human experimentation facility opens a portal, the town is suddenly attacked by an alternate universe: the Upside Down. Stranger Things follows the lives of four boys, Dustin, Will, Mike, and Lucas, along with a strange girl, Eleven, who escapes from the facility. This show is enjoyable for people of all ages who love action and adventure, fantasy and horror. “The nostalgia of being a kid growing up in the 80s… I think it had the right amount of scariness and fun…I love to see the character arcs,” Nick Lacy. This is the perfect show to start watching this fall, especially with the fifth and final season coming out in spring 2025.

Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones

This action-packed show will be more enjoyable for someone looking for a very exciting but gory show.  Game of Thrones follows the story of nine noble families, fighting for control over the kingdom of Westeros. In the first season, we are introduced to the Stark family, who find themselves caught up in secrets and betrayals. Meanwhile, the last surviving member of the Targaryen dynasty, Daenerys, is building her own army across the Narrow Sea. Blood and battles occur, dragons and other magical beasts run wild, but nothing will prepare these families for the return of one ancient enemy, who has been dormant for millennia. “I really like all the fighting scenes and all the action of the show,” said Nico Deyoung (‘26). “It made it really engaging and fun to watch.”

Family Guy
Family Guy

This very funny animated show centers around the lives of the dysfunctional Griffin Family. Peter, Lois, Chris and Meg live together in their wacky Rhode Island town. “Family Guy is really funny and it always keeps me entertained,” said Heather Shriberg (‘26). “I can’t stop laughing!”  This show is perfect for anyone looking for a silly show that you can watch while cleaning, cooking or just sitting on the couch!
