With March Madness coming up, everyone is starting to talk about it. There are so many good college basketball teams. Skyline’s favorites this year are Duke, Michigan, Arizona, UConn, Iowa State, and Houston, and it’s hard to tell which team will be the best.
Fans are getting prepared for March 15, 2026, Selection Sunday, when the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee will pick 68 teams to compete in this tournament. The first four will start on March 17 and 18, fighting for the 11th seed and the 16th seed. As of right now the teams predicted to be in the first four are Indiana, Morehead State, Auburn, and TCU, but this could change.
Many Skyline students have been talking about Duke as one of the favorites to get the 1 seed this year. If you get the 1 seed, that means you are the leader of your bracket, which can give you a very helpful advantage.
“I think the top seeds for this year’s selection Sunday are going to be Michigan, Duke, Arizona, and UConn,” says basketball fan Alex Murrell (‘29). “These are the best teams in college basketball right now, and I just don’t see that changing,”
With so many good players in this year’s regular season, Skyline students are wondering who will be the star players in this year’s tournament?
“In my opinion, Isaiah Evans from Duke will be the best player in the tournament,” says Bryce Wall (‘29).” He is going to display his amazing 3-point shooting and show his amazing leadership,”
“When we talk about star players, Cam Boozer from Duke has to be mentioned,” says Alex Murrell (‘29). “He is a frontrunner for the national player of the year, and is on one of the best teams in the country,”
Skyline students are wondering who will be some underdogs in the tournament.
“The two teams that stand out to me are Miami, Ohio, and Wisconsin,” says Ty Wren (‘28). “Miami Ohio hasn’t lost a game yet but hasn’t played any ranked teams and Wisconsin has some very good wins against some very good teams and also some very bad loses,”
Last year’s tournament ended in a championship for Florida. Will they be able to do it again this year? They are on a seven game win streak and starting to look like a real contender in this year’s March Madness.
Or, will there be a new champion this year?
