The Skyline Women’s basketball program is building a new era with freshmen and sophomores taking on major varsity roles. This 2025-2026 season, one freshman and four sophomores are making an impact, stacking up key wins while bringing new energy and confidence to the team.
Lola Debenedet (‘29), Josie Lovelace (‘28), Alex Strauss (‘28), Jane Jordan (‘28), and Sadie Jordan (‘28) have brought a noticeable change to the program. Skyline has defeated several major rivals this season, including Huron, Pioneer, Bedford, and Dexter during the regular season. These wins are fueled by the confidence and consistency that the younger players bring.
“We’re learning so much in every single practice and game,” says Lovelace. “It is so exciting to see how much better we are getting. As we get more experience, the more we will contribute to the team.”
As the younger athletes step into bigger leadership roles, the responsibility they have taken on has motivated them to grow quickly and surpass expectations.
The youngest on the team, Debenedet, recognizes that stepping into this job is a rare opportunity to embrace. “It’s a big role, and we know we’re being counted on, but it’s exciting,” says Debenedet. “The responsibilities and challenges we have just makes me want to prove myself even more.”
The younger players have impacted the team’s energy. “They have brought a light to our team that we didn’t know we needed,” says Viviann Brabec (‘27). “You can feel the energy in big games like Bedford and Dexter, it’s a big reason we’ve been able to beat those teams.”
With many strong underclassmen gaining valuable experience early, people are thinking about what this solid foundation could create for the program. Jordan sees this season as the start of something that will continue to build in years to come.
“It’s super fun to play with this team because we’re all working together and have great team chemistry,” says Jane Jordan. “I’m super excited for the next few years and beating our toughest opponents.”
