Each year in December, the NCAA hosts the biggest tournament in Division 1 women’s college volleyball, gathering 64 of the top teams from across the country to compete for the national title and close out the season. Volleyball players and casual sports fans throughout Skyline have been cheering on their favorite teams and sharing predictions on which teams have a shot at making it to the finals.
A popular choice for this season has been the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Many fans love Nebraska’s energy and love for the game that they see from each player cheering on their team. With five national championships under their belt and a strong fanbase, not only at Skyline because of graduate, Harper Murray, but also nationwide, Nebraska has a strong chance at securing the championship.
“When I watch Nebraska play, every player looks like they’re having the time of their lives, with so much passion and energy,” says Catherine Wilcox (‘27). “Not only are they completely undefeated this season, but they play like every point matters.”
Michigan Volleyball also has a spotlight on them at Skyline because they continually inspire young athletes in the area. The Skyline Volleyball program loves to attend Michigan volleyball games each season which strengthens the connection between the two teams even further. As they start to face tougher competition, many cheer for them and hope to see the hard work they have put in this season pay off.
“I’ve always rooted for Michigan because it’s so close to home,” says Audrey Walters (‘28). “The Michigan Volleyball team has always been something to look up to since I first started playing volleyball when I was around 8, so I really hope they continue to do well this season.”
The Ohio State volleyball team also has fans at Skyline, who root for them because of their dynamic players and love for the university. Some admire specific players and the team’s fast gameplay.
“I’ve always been a big supporter of Ohio State, especially their football team, but I started watching their volleyball team recently, and it’s so fun to watch because of how quick they are to every ball. Mia Tuman is definitely my favorite player, and I really hope to see her do good in the postseason tournament,” says Camryn Murray (‘26).
With the final tournament underway, students at Skyline will continue to show their support and excitement for the teams they love. Fans will be closely watching to see which team will come out on top. You’re able to watch the NCAA tournament on ESPN, Hulu, or Fubo when the tournament officially starts on December 4th.
