The Super Bowl is one of the most viewed events in the US, with the 2025 championship coming in at 127.71 million viewers. Two teams battle it out after a long grueling season, in order to get the final prize: the famed Vince Lombardi trophy, awarded to the best team in the NFL.
Skyline students and teachers have different thoughts on who they predict will win the Superbowl, whether it’s their favorite team or a more realistic guess. There are a few teams to watch this year: some teams that have proven themselves and some that have surprising potential.
The Lions and Colts seem to be favorites, whereas the Chargers and Steelers may be dark horses to watch out for.
“The Indianapolis Colts [will] win the Super Bowl,” says football fan Blake Davidoff (‘26). “The pickup of Daniel Jones…he’s the right man for the job… [the Colts are] the best team in the league, best record, and I think we’re gonna win.”
Davidoff is a known Colts fan, but there is some truth to his wish of his team winning. The Colts went from an 8-9 record last year, to starting off 7-2; there’s something brewing in Indianapolis that NFL fans should be ready for.
The Lions are commonly Michiganders’ top pick. So far the Lions have had a pretty good season, sitting at the top of the National Football Conference (NFC) North division with a record of 6-3.
“The Lions [could win the Super Bowl],” says Andre Criswell, SLC Principal at Skyline. “As long as they don’t play like they recently did, the Lions could win.” Even though the Lions lost to the Chiefs and Vikings in their most recent game, there’s still hope for a Super Bowl victory.
Lions fan William Duffy (‘28) also has high hopes for the season. “I think the Lions will win the Super Bowl,” says Duffy. “They have a pretty good record right now and have beaten some pretty good teams.” With victories against the Bucs and Ravens, who are known Super Bowl contenders, these wins have really given the Lions hope.
Something that fans look forward to in the playoffs is upsets. Watching an underdog story is always heartwarming, especially if that team can win a trophy as large as the Super Bowl. A total of 14 out of 32 teams make the NFL playoffs, which can lead to multiple upsets throughout a playoff run. There are a few teams that could shock football fans around the world.
Davidoff thinks the Steelers could be a dark horse this year. “Consistency over the years, never having a losing record… I think they could do some damage.”
With a 5-3 record, the Steelers aren’t favorites, but could definitely spice up the season. With a similar record at 6-3, the Chargers are an underdog team.
“They’ve been playing really good of late,” says Criswell. “Get some really good support for Herbert on offense, and then see the defense come together and have that chemistry that you typically see from teams that have had guys together for years.”
