Skyline Women’s Volleyball won 3 out of 4 matches against The Dexter Dreadnaughts in their district finals, allowing them to advance to the Regional Semi-Finals.
“After winning, we all knew that we were capable of going far in this tournament,” said Allie Rothenberg (‘28). In the Regional Semifinals on Tuesday, November 11th, the Skyline Eagles went 3-0 against DeWitt, advancing them further to the Regional Finals.
The team was scheduled to play the Saline Hornets on Thursday, November 13th, for a chance to move on to the Quarterfinals. “We’ve played Saline twice this season, and we grew a lot from both those games, so I think if we work hard on running combo plays and getting them out of the system, we have a real chance of beating them,” said Piper Ayotte (‘28).
The Eagles won all three matches against the Saline Hornets, advancing them to the State Quarterfinals.
The Eagles have been so successful this year because of the amount of leadership the team has, as well as the trust they all have in each other. “Throughout the entire season, we have all supported each other through all of our ups and downs,” said Rothenberg (‘28). “Just the feeling of winning together for a second year in a row makes all of our hard work worth it.”
Another aspect of their successes is the team’s positive mindset and belief in each other. “We were all really nervous, but we all wanted the win, so we all had a fair level of confidence in ourselves,” said Olivia Castillo (‘26).
The team hopes to keep up this mindset as they move forward. “Our goal is to just keep our energy up, no matter what happens, and to just have fun,” said Castillo (‘26). “That’s when we play the best, so if we keep it up, then I think we could go far.”
The team will compete against the Byron Center Bulldogs in the State Quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 18th, at Gull Lake High School.
