Despite losing last year’s seniors, the Bowling team intends to have a great season. They are counting on a larger player count this year than the last to boost them to success. Returning players know they need to put in a lot of time at Station 300 in order to get the best outcome they can from their season.
“We lost a lot of seniors,” says men’s team captain, Reece Hanrath (‘26). “Our returning players are going to have to put in a lot of work…But we have had a lot more interest from classmates and friends about joining the team than past years so hopefully we [will] have a larger roster than last year.”
The team knows the amount of work needed is not a light task, and they can sometimes have a lot to do within their two hour practice, however that doesn’t mean they can’t have fun. The bowlers find time to practice with old and new friends on the team, and love to have a quick laugh at practice.
“We have a lot of freedom to practice with our buddies, and talk with our teammates,” says Hanrath. “We all have nicknames we put onto the computer, many of them are inside jokes.”
Joining the bowling team was a great way these players made connections within the community, and have good times with friends that share the same interest with them doing the thing they love, bowling.
“The bowling team is a perfect sport to join with friends,” says Hanrath. “I joined because of friends, and I made plenty more!”
“I joined the bowling team…because I wanted to join a sport at some point to make friends.” says women’s team captain, Regina Jiang (‘27). “Plus the fact I like bowling due to wii sports and real life bowling…and I haven’t regretted it since.”
The team also likes to hang out outside of the alley, still talking about bowling, or catching up with one another chatting online.
“I usually like to talk to my bowling mates in-person or on messages to check up on them once in a while,” says Jiang. “But we mostly talk in-season or doing concessions, recruiting, or doing something for other skyline teams.”
Not only do they have fun at their alley and around school, but Hanrath notes how fun it is to drive with the team for away matches.
“Carpools to matches are always a highlight! And often some players will hang out in the hosting city after,” says Hanrath. “We also like to go to a store called Tippins on the way home from practice.”
With the 2025-26 bowling season on the way the bowlers get ready for the excitement that comes with the practices and games, all waiting to see their record after the season is over.
