The Skyline Boys’ Soccer team entered the year with big expectations, focused on winning districts and competing for a state title. With a large senior class and many passionate players, members of the team had high hopes for the season.
The team had “all [their] eyes set on winning districts,” said starting goalkeeper Jack Collins (‘27). The team’s strong start gave them “confidence going into districts.”
Despite this mentality, the team lost in the district semi-finals to Pioneer 4-3 in overtime.
Prior to districts, the team had a record of 9 wins, 8 ties, and 3 losses. Something the team focused on to achieve this impressive record was their ability to stay disciplined and maintain a steady level of performance.
Collins said the key was “showing up to practice, every practice, every game, on time, putting all the work in, making sure we’re not skipping out on film sessions and things like that.”

The senior class contributed greatly to the team’s chemistry and dynamics. Not just what the seniors gave on the field, like goals and clean sheets, but what they did off the field helped new players learn and improve, through positive examples.
Bonding events like the beginning of the season trip to Traverse City showed the underclassmen traits like positive reinforcement and working as a team, which transferred onto the field. “[The seniors have] definitely shaped my character more,” said Jacob Coultas (‘28). “I’ve learned a lot from them.”
This experienced group of seniors also helped the team work well together. “We’ve all been playing together for a really long time,” said Alex Szentkiralyi (‘26). “We all know each other really well, so it’s easy to play with each other. Everyone gets along.”
Many players enjoyed the team’s atmosphere off the field, in the locker room, and at warm ups, preparing players for big games, both mentally and physically. “I really liked the warm-ups before the games, when we were listening to the speaker in the locker room,” said Coultas. “They were really fun.”
With the loss of many seniors, the team hopes to add new players next year that bring them to a higher level and who help them be successful in their season and in districts. The current freshman and sophomore classes have many players that could benefit the team next year. Players like Jacob Coultas (‘28), Michael Marrs (‘28), and Liam Edison (‘28) will be looking to positively influence the team in the coming seasons. With a combination of many high-skilled players and underclassmen with raw talent, the Skyline soccer team looks to be a powerful contender to take home the district championship in coming years.
