Since the release of its first article in September, 2021, The Skyline Post has developed into an established high school newspaper recognized over 20 times at the state level. The Post is planning even further stories about the goings on at and around Skyline, from its events to its people.
Here’s what’s new:
Skyline Post Environmental Print Edition: Coming Soon!
Next week, The Skyline Post will print the 4th edition of its physical newspaper. The paper will be passed out to the students of Skyline before first hour, free of charge. The staff has worked hard to sell ads and with this latest issue has achieved financial self-sufficiency, no longer needing budget support for printing and web hosting from the school administration.
Ashley Han & Olivia Watters’ Salamander Story
On February 13th, 2025, Editor-in-Chief Ashley Han and Senior Writer Olivia Watters published their long-awaited story on a unique part of Skyline’s history: the state of the Skyline wetlands and the health of our elusive LJJ unisexual hybrid salamander.
After The Post won grant funding for this environmental reporting, the pair spent a year chasing the story and presented it at MSU this Fall. The Post has now won another Knight Center for Environmental Journalism grant to continue this local research. This Fall, we will partner with Carly Bartholomew’s Michigan Botany course to cover their work restoring the native plants and battling invasive species in our wetlands. Reporters who are also students in AP Environmental Science will be eligible to apply to be the lead reporters on this story.
Skyline Post Nearly Reaches 100,000 Total Page Views
The Skyline Post has been clocking how many views each story has gotten since launching our new website in 2022. On February 22nd, 2025, it reached 100,000 total views across all stories.
Fun facts:
- The most popular story on the site is “Is It Worth Reading The Whole Series of Twisted?” by Ryan Samuels, with 13,995 views and running.
- The state with the most views of our paper, after Michigan, is Virginia, with 5,374 views.
- The Skyline Post’s most viewed day was October 1st, 2024. The total view count for the day was 506 views in one day, mainly due to Kamryn Lindsey’s story, “MSU Applications Free Between October 1-15 with Coupon Code” gaining 114 views on October 1st alone. Our second most viewed story on the day was Samuels’ story with 90 views.
