Are you wondering what to wear to Homecoming this year? Homecoming this year is this Saturday, October 4th. Will people dress to the theme?
“Well, the theme is The Great Gatsby and the 1920s…the 1920s are very popular for having Flapper dresses,” says Natalie Hannewald (‘27). “And those are kind of tight fitted dresses, but they have beads or like strands on them that are like for when they’re dancing they fling out.”
1920s fashion also includes chunky beaded jewelry, sequins, and fringe. “I have heard from some students that they’re looking for either black or gold, because that’s usually Great Gatsby themed,”says Anne Bezeau, SAS Supervisor (Student Action Senate), ”but of course dressing to the theme is not required.”
Aside from the theme, the Homecoming trends this year are similar to the ones in 2024, including solid colors like pink, emerald, and metallic shades, as well as soft pastels and neutral colors. “For the theme, I think it’s a cool theme, but I just feel like, you know, not a lot of people know about The Great Gatsby or understand it,” says Avery Buczek (‘29), “So it’s a pretty mid theme to me.”
Now that we know what to look for, let’s talk about where to look.
Personally, I recommend shopping for Homecoming dresses at Windsor, because it offers a wide selection of trendy styles, like short or long dresses, and also includes popular styles like sequins, beads, feathers, and cute cutouts at an affordable price.
If you’re looking for a color that gives you a warm look, pink and coral shades are the way to go, especially if you’re a gold girly. But blue will never not be a classic. Whether it’s a deep navy blue, or a soft pastel with silver, blue gives you a clean look. Dark colors, like black dresses, give a classic look. If you’re looking for something even more bold, any shades of red go well with silver.
There are so many options on what to wear to Homecoming this year. Are you going to be wearing sneakers or heels? Expensive or thrift? Wear something that makes you feel confident and happy.
