On January 8th, Skyline’s biggest club DECA traveled to Eastern Michigan University for their district competition. DECA is a club that helps emerging leaders prepare for careers in business and marketing. After months of preparation, Skyline students found success at districts.
Many students join this club because they want to become entrepreneurs. “[Uma Rao and I] both really want to do business as a career path,” said Adarsh Nadgir (‘25).
This club provides a great opportunity for students to experience business challenges head-on. “Doing role plays and being judged live is really good practice interviews,” said Uma Rao (‘25).
Students have spent hours outside of school, engaging in meetings and rehearsing their presentations in which they role play business decisions and present business plans. Rao and Nadgir were both partners for districts and participated in a Marketing Management Team Decision roleplay. “We went to Westgate library and practiced for hours,” Rao said, “on their website they have a lot of practice prompts we found useful.”
Kennedy Wassef (‘26) and Gabi Arocha (‘26) earned 96/100, almost a perfect score, on their roleplay in Sports and Entertainment Marketing Management.
Wassef and Arocha prepare for their event for the State competition. They are unsure if they will compete with the roleplay that qualified them for States or have to “write a whole paper, multiple pages, regarding..what the topic is that year in our category,” said Arocha. “Then put it on a poster board, [that] we take to DECA [States], and we have to have a presentation setup.
Many Skyline students are preparing for the State competition in Detroit, Michigan on March 13-15, 2025.
