This was during one of our first matches at the Washtenaw Area Pick-Up Robotics competition. A bunch of high school robotics teams from the Washtenaw area got together and had a fun design challenge to get ready for the [main] season.
My group was the learning bot, which was for all new members. It was their first time being a part of the drive team, technician, and everything, and I was there to assist them along the way. The technician pushes the cart around and sets up the computers for the [match], and the Drive Team uses controllers to drive the robot.
It’s extremely important for newer members to be included, because this is something that they love to do, and they are the future of this team. FIRST (the group that runs these robotics) is not only an organization, it’s also a community. We want them to feel included in that.
