On Tuesday December 10, between 7:20 to 7:45 a.m., Skyline High School teachers are planning to stand outside Skyline High School in the cold weather and snow, hoping to gain support and raise awareness of their current pay and work situation.
Teachers report that their healthcare premiums have increased, their raises have been delayed, they are being required to teach new courses, and their class sizes have increased. See The Skyline Post for more detailed coverage of these issues.
“I’m excited to participate in the informational picket,” says science teacher Carley Bartholomew. “I think it’s a great way for teachers to come together to talk about why we love this district, and what we need from the district in order to stay here and thrive.”
Teachers participating in the informational picket will be passing out pamphlets with information and are asking students to pass the news to parents and family at home. The pamphlets will include a QR code where students can sign a letter that will be sent to the district board from the teachers.
