“I decided to take a quick picture of myself before leaving to go to registration. Then I put my blush in the same spot as my inspo pic from Gehako, and then I used a natural lip color since natural/light lip colors or concealer lips are typically seen in gyaru. I got involved with doing gal makeup from hearing about gyaru online. I saw what gyaru stood for and it resonated with me. It first started out as a movement against Japan’s unfair beauty standards for women, but it has expanded since then. I also fell in love with the style. Ever since I found it, it helped me find a community I was comfortable with. If you’re ever wanting to get into J-fashion, I suggest finding a community space that you feel safe in. In my opinion, that’s the most important part of a sharing environment.”
