On March 22, Ann Arbor Public Schools interim superintendent Jazz Parks released a budget update regarding the recent $25 million budget cuts, highlighting new attempts at gathering community feedback.
“We are seeking community input through a survey open to staff, parents, high school students, and community members,” stated Parks in the budget update. This survey will be available until April 5. The survey allows for feedback regarding the prioritization of district funds.
The board will also be meeting on Thursday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Lake Michigan Conference Room at 3700 Earhart Road. As usual, this meeting will be open to the public and include a public commentary section, where community members can sign up to voice their opinions to the board. There is no information posted on the Board website regarding the agenda or resolution votes for this meeting.
Additionally, on Monday, April 15, the board will be hosting a “virtual town hall meeting” at 6:30 p.m. to receive input from the community. More information regarding the format of this meeting will be forthcoming.
“We plan to visit as many schools as possible over the coming weeks to engage with staff and students to get feedback and input,” continued Parks. “We are also reviewing the feedback and data from the superintendent search engagement process and last spring’s listen-and-learn to glean stakeholder priorities and inform our next steps. We will not make decisions regarding reductions until we hear from our Ann Arbor Public Schools Community.”
The Skyline Post will be closely monitoring this developing story and will report information regarding these budget cuts as they are made public.
