If you struggle to find places to have a solid breakfast in Ann Arbor, then today is your lucky day. Next time you are craving a good breakfast, here are three options to help you decide whether they are worth the trip.
Starting off strong, we have 19Drips. It’s not just a cafe, it’s a lifestyle.
19Drips is a cafe on Jackson Avenue, opened in November of 2022 by a family from Yemen. The cafe took the place of the Songbird Cafe.
I have to say, even though the building is relatively secluded, it exceeds any expectation. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming with authentic and unique food.
When you enter the cafe, there is always some bustle, but never an uncomfortable crowd. The staff is extremely kind and runs the store well. Even on a busy day, they will find a way to accommodate, and even befriend you.
The food is authentic Yemeni and amazingly delicious. You can customize your meals with different sides, proteins, and more. They also have a mini dessert bar where the not-so-hidden gems could wait for someone all day and still taste fresh.
An honorable mention goes to their freshly squeezed orange juice which is delicious and refreshing. But 19Drips can make anything taste better than any standard. Even something as simple as their green tea tastes better than any I’ve ever had. Green tea usually tastes basic and unsweet, but this green tea was perfectly sweet and flavorful. Nothing but tens all around.
The little features around the cafe give it so much personality. Sometimes they’ll have merchandise such as plants or books by local authors for sale.
Cannelle is a relatively new cafe that opened in downtown Ann Arbor in 2021. It is a French patisserie and cafe that sells a range of French desserts, sandwiches, salads, and more.
From the variety of their pastries to the calming atmosphere, Cannelle is a dream. I might be as bold as to say that it is the best cafe in Ann Arbor.
The clean environment of Cannelle is extremely welcoming. The inviting smell of warm croissants and cakes brings you in at the crack of the entrance door. It is rarely too busy to enjoy, and the seating is accommodating as well.
It’s open from early in the morning until late in the evening, allowing anyone—regardless of schedule—to be able to have the Cannelle experience.
The food is exceptional. The pastries are perfectly sweet and the baked goods are warm and light. One of my personal favorites is their apple tart, with a perfectly warm and cinnamony filling. There are dozens of different options to choose from.
Even if sweets aren’t for you, Cannelle still exceeds any expectations with their amazing savory treats. Their sandwiches are a breakfast go-to and the salads also take the cake (pun intended). From a basic Ham & Cheese to smoked salmon, or baguette to romaine, or eggs to bacon, the options are endless.
If you love French food and a casual environment to converse with your friends or study for your final, Cannelle is definitely the place for you.
The Drip House is a cute cafe across from the Michigan Stadium and near Pioneer High School. It serves breakfast foods and pastries—and of course, coffee.
There is a lot of seating in The Drip House, allowing you to have a dining experience regardless of a full house. There is also outdoor seating for warmer days.
There are so many options for drinks and food. There are many coffees and teas, and various options of common breakfast go-to’s, such as toasts, crepes, and sandwiches.
If you’re ever going to a game, whether at Pioneer or the Big House, it is in the perfect location. Get some pregame breakfast or a snack for later and you will be surely satisfied.
The food is just as flavorful as it is colorful, the pastries are fresh and the drinks are delicious. The breakfast menu has savory and sweet choices; there’s something there for all tastes.
Hopefully this expanded your options for next time you are out and about looking for a morning stop.
Some honorable mention: The Stray Hen Cafe and The Jagged Fork. Happy feasting!
