I remember my first moment walking into Skyline High School. My big sister was still with me. I was so confused because I didn’t know where I was going.
And my second moment was when I did my tour around the school and I got to see all the classrooms. It was an amazing experience .
These four years have been the most amazing but stressful years of my life. I bet my 9th grade self wouldn’t believe that I’m graduating.
I doubted myself. School is not my strong suit at all. At some points, it seemed too hard but I never gave up. The challenges I faced were turning work in on time and staying consistent. And yes: it did seem too far away. But I got here and graduating has never felt more freeing.
All my life I have been waiting to graduate. And now is finally the time. My 9th grade self would think of me now and say “you made it!” and “I’m so proud of you for succeeding in your career in cosmetology.”
If I could reach out and talk to my 9th grade self, I would say: don’t give up, and make some friends so you are not entirely alone. And I am talking to everybody coming into high school here: turn your work in on time, don’t slack off, and make sure to have fun because this is an experience, so you should live it to your full potential. You shouldn’t give up even if times get tough, because everything gets better eventually.
To my family, thank you for pushing me in a way that no one else can because you guys are my rock and firm foundation and I love you. No matter what.
