Skyline’s Learning Center has recently announced their new writing competition. Students have been asked to respond to the prompt, “What is a meaningful experience or tradition you have relating to your culture/heritage?” for the chance of winning a prize of candy.
This competition is run by Learning Center tutor, Hana Ghani (‘27). “I left [the prompt] open to interpretation,” Ghani says. “It is AAPI month, so anyone can enter if they have an experience to write about.” Competitions like these allow Skyline Students to unleash their creativity in writing. “One of the core beliefs we have in the center is that writing can be fun and a form of self expression,” says Learning Center leader, Alaina Feliks.
The Learning Center holds these competitions every trimester. “This year we did one about what the future holds,” says Feliks, “it’s kind of cool because [these competitions] represent the broad range of people’s opinions.”
“I’m doing the judging for the competition,” says Ghani, “I might have a few other Learning Center tutors help me.” It is important to note that there is no criteria on what makes your story right for this competition. The key idea is to make your story unique to you.
The deadline is May 15th, and flyers are being posted throughout the school with QR codes for anyone to enter the competition. This year, any submission can be uploaded to the Learning Center’s website, anonymously or not!
