Skyline Wrestling has had a fantastic season this year. As a team, Skyline went 3-3 in meets.
This year, they also had several athletes such as Titus Reid (‘28) and Connor Gillilland (‘25) make it to District Regionals, and in the girls division Adrienne Stewart (‘26) made it to States. “I think our team had a good year, but we need to work harder to get through individuals’ districts,” says Reid. “My year was alright as a freshman. I made it to varsity regionals but was beaten there and didn’t make it to states.”
This year the team did well at individuals’ Districts and the Southeast Conference (SEC) tournament and also won the home invitational. “We had some good performances,” said Reid. “We won the Skyline Varsity Invite, and we scored the 4th most points at individuals’ districts and placed 3rd in the SEC tournament.
Last year they went 3-6 in team meets. This year they have definitely improved, and not just with meets either. Says Binkley. “We are looking a lot better, and our team this year would’ve smoked last years’ team.”
The loss of seniors is going to hit the team hard next year. “I think we have an amazing team and a great future line-up,” says Varsity Wrestler Landon Binkley (‘25). “However our greatest wrestlers by far are seniors and it will be a major loss all around to the team.”
The team has a lot of new talent and depth, with several underclassmen already wrestling for varsity. “I think the JV team and younger wrestlers will be able to step in for our seniors who are leaving,” says Reid. “We have been working hard and we only have two seniors wrestling anyway.”
There are high hopes for the team’s performance for next year. “It’s a strong program with a tough coach,” says Binkley. “I believe they’ll turn out even better in the future.”
