The 13th annual Hungry Eagle indoor rowing race took place this past weekend at Skyline High School. The event brings together 25 high school teams from across the Midwest to compete in one of the largest rowing events in the region.
From 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., athletes race on rowing machines, also known as ergs, for 2,000 meters and whoever has the most strength and determination to finish first wins!
With over 1,000 spectators spread out throughout the day, the usual basketball court was filled with cheers, high energy, and camaraderie as friendly competitiveness grew. The atmosphere at any rowing event is electrified, especially when each athlete races solo: the crowd goes crazy, pushing each individual to give it their all. Skyline’s team displayed their team spirit as the entire team cheers for every single person racing, whether they are on the home team or not.
Skyline High School’s rowing team, known for their dedication to perform exceptionally well, placed highly in the majority of their events. This was not just because of their home base environment, but because of the countless hours of training these athletes do everyday throughout the year. This event shows that their skills are just as good on and off the water.
Hungry Eagle has grown significantly over the years, and this year’s event was no exception. It is now one of the most attended high school rowing competitions in the Midwest for coaches, high school athletes and spectators to come together. Skyline Crew looks forward to hosting this event every year and it has become an exciting date on the athlete’s calendars.
