Starfield is a game set in space, roaming from planet to planet making decisions of either good or evil. Starfield is a free roam role-play style game that was developed in 2023 by Bethesda Game Studios, the same company that made the Fallout series. The game had such an interesting idea and had a lot of potential, yet it was executed poorly by the developers.
While the concept of Starfield is enjoyable and entertaining, it simultaneously feels like it’s lacking in different areas. At some times it could feel boring and underwhelming. It’s especially disappointing while playing; you’re supposed to be constantly hunted while trying to complete the main objective of finding artifacts, but very little actually goes on for this supposed “threat”.
Another thing I found disappointing is the choices. They feel like they don’t matter. For example, there are five different factions, most notably the Crimson Fleet. If you side with the Crimson Fleet, you receive zero backlash for siding with them except a snide comment from your Companion.
Another disappointing thing is how robotic the people in Starfield are. When you get a mission from an NPC, a lot of the times their requests are asking you to help them unless you “want the world to end”. This mission pattern gets repetitive and annoying.
At times, Starfield can be very buggy, making it difficult to play and immerse yourself in the setting of deep space. Sometimes it can randomly crash or freeze, forcing a player to reload the game. On top of that, the gameplay isn’t all that unique, as it serves as yet another exploration game with guns.
I personally don’t think this game is worth playing due to all of these factors. You would most likely be better off playing one of the Fallout games or any other game similar to this one.
