Why are there fences, temporary buildings, and a dumpster by the tennis courts? This construction is upgrading Skyline’s geothermal field. This is meant to maintain Skyline’s geothermal energy systems that power our heating and cooling systems.
“I believe it’s part of the district wide bond from a few years back,” said Equality and Academic Innovation SLC principal, Crystal Fluker. “Other schools have had construction and now it’s Skyline’s turn. Right now they are [working on] geothermal. They are helping us to be better with our renewable energy and natural energy source, which is part of the pre-existing bond. That part just started over break, making our renewable energy sources stronger.”
However, this construction has affected teachers who park by the tennis courts, forcing them to park even farther from their classrooms.
“I park by the tennis courts, and [the construction] has affected me from what I’ve noticed,” said teacher Corey Nowitzke.
“There’s a lot more vehicles parked along the tennis courts, and a lot of those are vehicles that seem to be from the construction workers. Mostly since we’ve been back from break, I’ve noticed more vehicles parked back there. Of course, before break, I noticed that the portable building was being set up in the back. I’ve had to move down further than I usually park, [but] not in a different location yet, at least.”
The parking spots by the tennis courts are only a short walk away from the second floor entrance to the C hallway stairs. This is great for teachers located near the C hallway stairs, because they don’t have to park by the main office (on the A hallway side of the building), and they enter on the second floor instead of first floor.
