Whether it’s Luke Jordan (‘24) rowing at Wisconsin’s Madison University, or Evan Rothenberg (‘23) playing quarterback for Carnegie Mellon University’s football team, Skyline athletes are continuing to make names for themselves past high school.
During his four years on the Skyline crew team, Jordan won the single sculling event for states, placing third nationally in 2023. That same year, he was also selected for the USRowing Under 19 National Team Selection Camp in 2024.
During the off seasons of Crew, Jordan was part of Skyline’s boys swim team. He swam the Butterfly 100 yards in 54.49 seconds placing him in 6th, at the 2023 Southeastern Conference RED Championships.
Now Jordan has continued his rowing career in college. “I am rowing at Wisconsin and studying electrical engineering,” he says. “It is great bonding with my friends, and it keeps me focused and on task during the rest of the day. There are also a ton of perks to being an athlete, like we get money for food everyday and have an athlete center.“
Many students look to past Skyline athletes for guidance on their progression throughout their athletic career. “My advice for future athletes would be get into a rhythm that will take you to where you want to be as soon as possible,” says Jordan. “Start doing the work ASAP.”
Evan Rothenberg (‘23) was a part of Skyline’s football and lacrosse teams. On the lacrosse team from 2021-2023, he won multiple games over the years, the most notable one being against Bedford in 2022, with an ending score of 11-10. Bringing it back after their loss in the previous month.
“My experience on the team was awesome,” said Rothenberg. “I made a lot of great memories and had fun with my friends.”
Rothenberg was also a part of the football team from 2021-2023. “I am now a sophomore quarterback at Carnegie Mellon university,” he says. “My experience has been great, and my favorite part has been getting to know all of my teammates.”
So far Evan has had an 83% win ratio this year, with his most notable win against Washington & Jefferson College on 9/28. The ending score was 30-27, with the final touchdown for Carnegie winning them the game during overtime.
He decided to continue his football career because “I enjoy playing the game, love being a part of a team, hope to work in football one day … I had the opportunity to go to a good school and get to play football for four more years. I would say to enjoy your time playing for Skyline with all of your teammates as much as possible.”
