The Skyline Men’s Soccer team wrapped up its season with a commendable 8-5-6 record, showcasing both athletic prowess and a team-first mentality that Head Coach Morgan proudly reflected on. Despite an unfortunate loss in districts, the season provided numerous highlights and growth moments, with Morgan emphasizing how the boys truly came together as a cohesive unit on and off the field.
“I believe the season went well,” said Morgan. “Of course, the final loss in the tournament is a disappointment, but once you get past that loss, you’re able to reflect and appreciate how the boys came together as a team.”
Coach Morgan highlighted the importance of senior leadership and the dedication from the group of captains who helped shape the team’s success. The seniors, paired with a talented mix of juniors and sophomores, created a dynamic roster and a group. “Their willingness to work together, made us a team to be reckoned with,” said Morgan.
Skyline’s standout midfielder, Josh Hetrick (25’), echoed Coach Morgan’s sentiments about team unity and the season’s success. “I think this year really showed how far we’ve come as a team,” said Hetrick. “There was a lot of chemistry, and everyone was pushing each other to be better every day at practice.”
He credited the team’s captains for setting the tone and leading by example. “We had great leadership this year, and it’s something that made us all work harder and keep our heads in every game,” said Hetrick.
Throughout the season, Skyline’s players showed consistent dedication not only in their soccer performance but also in academics. Morgan spoke highly of the team’s academic achievements, sharing that their commitment to excellence extended well beyond the field. “Our soccer program has been pretty blessed, year-in and year-out, when it comes to academics and team GPA. Both the boy’s and girl’s programs do great things in the classroom,” said Morgan. For coach Morgan, having a group that values education as much as soccer made coaching that much more fulfilling and set an admirable tone within the team.
The team’s strong academic focus helped build a foundation of discipline and mutual respect. “It feels good to know that everyone is putting in the work, not just on the field but in school, too,” said Hetrick. “It’s a big part of what makes us successful as a team because it brings us together with shared goals and helps us respect each other’s hard work.”
When asked about standout moments of the season, Morgan pointed to the team’s steady drive to compete. “I would have to say there wasn’t really a best moment… It was probably the player’s willingness to work and compete in every match,” said Morgan. Coach Morgan reflected on the players’ determination and ability to compete with anyone. This unrelenting drive propelled them to their 8-5-6 record, with victories gained through effort and resilience.
Reflecting on what stood out to Josh personally, he described the team having a sense of brotherhood that made each game feel special. “Every time we went out there, we knew we were playing for each other, and that’s a great feeling,” said Hetrick. “It wasn’t just about winning, but about making each other better.”
Looking ahead, the future is bright for Skyline’s soccer program. The team will return 15 players next season, including their entire back line. Morgan also hinted at promising JV players who will add depth and strength to an already solid foundation. “I am truly looking forward to the season next year,” Morgan said. “The future is very bright with this group of players.”
With a successful season behind them and the excitement of what’s to come, Skyline’s soccer team has much to be proud of and plenty to anticipate in the upcoming season.
