“Skyline on three!” chants Captain Jessica Lee (25’). Three new captains, two new coaches, and one similar mindset. The varsity Volleyball team is taking on team culture. The team lost 5 seniors last year and are a much younger team now…“We started off with a new coaching program,” Lee says. “It was hard in the beginning but we have really brought it together and are all very close.”
The girls have done many team dinners and bonding activities, and have hung out hours on end at tournaments together. Team bonding helps create knots and ties between the girls. “Having trust and confidence in one another helps us play stronger,” Team captain Riley Howe said.
With the team having a new coach, the girls have wondered if they will win more games this season… “We are doing pretty good, we’ve gotten a lot better,” said Lee. “We are winning a majority of our games.”
The team made it to Districts the season of 2023-2024 but unfortunately lost to Saline High School, ending their run in the tournament. This year they are hoping to show their skill and make it as far in the tournament as possible. “I think if we work hard…we have a chance at getting to at least Semi-finals,” says captain Micaiah Bottom (‘25).
Knowing that the girls have done wonders to create team bonding, the captains are hoping for this to be brought out onto the court as well. “Team bonding has definitely helped us become closer…being on a close team makes it easier to enjoy playing and cheering on my team,” Howe says.
Having captains like these supporting and connecting the girls promises a positive season for the team.
