Fall Guy is both an action packed rom-com and a love letter to the stunt community, loosely based off of the 1980s TV show of the same name (ABC, 1981–1986). The movie is an attempt to bring more recognition to the stunt community and what they do.
Fall Guy does a great job of showing what goes into all the stunts. It was just as interesting to watch the stunts behind the scenes as it was to see them on screen. The Fall Guy is directed by David Leitch, a former stuntman. Leitch directed other movie successes such as Deadpool 2, Atomic Blond, and Hobbes and Shaw.
This movie is great for all ages. It’s full of action scenes to keep kids entertained as well as romance and jokes that reach every age.
The cast for this movie is *chef’s kiss*ˆ: Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Hannah Waddingham, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The chemistry between Gosling and Blunt on screen is absolutely unbelievable and makes the film so much better.
The story starts out with Colt (Gosling) and Jody (Blunt) together as a camera woman and stuntman. When Colt gets injured while doing a stunt, he quits the movie and ghosts Jody. Colt comes back to work as a stuntman in an attempt to win Jody back after she becomes a film director. Outside the film set, trouble arises when the lead actor (Taylor-Johnson) goes missing. It’s fallen upon the stunt man to find the lead actor, save the film, and attempt to get the love of his life back.
All of the characters are written extremely well; by the end of the movie I was attached to all of them, including the characters with smaller roles – although I did love all of the characters I felt as though there were too many and it was hard to keep up with. And, some of the characters were thrown into the plot and made for some confusing moments but other than that, the movie is great.
The movie does a really great job of sucking you in and getting you invested into the plot and characters. There were no dull moments. All scenes were either action-packed and full of stunts or full of well-written humor that gets the entire audience laughing. There were great plot twists that made it much more interesting to follow. Although there were definitely some points in the plot that were overdone or confusing, they passed quickly and caused little damage.
This movie is definitely the perfect popcorn movie and great for a Saturday night at the theaters.
