Have you heard of the new game Helldivers 2? Released in 2024 by Arrowhead Studios, the sequel to Helldivers has been extremely successful, selling over 8 million copies in the first 2 months of release. You can get the game on Playstation 5 or Steam. 

I purchased Helldivers 2 recently and have already clocked around 100 hours in game. Helldivers 2 is definitely something to consider if you’re looking for a new game; even if you don’t like shooters, this is a good choice, as it is non-competitive and easy to learn.

Helldivers 2 is a fun and cooperative PvE (player vs. environment) shooter game with rich lore and gameplay to keep you interested for months on end. It is one of the most successful live service games – new content like premium war bonds which are battle passes that come out often and do not expire. You can buy them with super credits, which can be purchased or easily found during missions. 

Players face off against two different types of enemies on two different fronts: the Terminids and the Automatons. The Terminids are a bug-like species, coming in hordes. The Automatons on the other hand are not as plentiful as the Terminids; however, they have advanced technology, allowing them to send streams of lasers and summon reinforcements from flying dropships. The community must defend their planets and counterattack others to gain ground. 

Helldivers 2 is updated frequently. Balancing patches, updates that alter weapon stats to make bad weapons better, happen several times a month. New guns, armors, and cosmetics are released on a monthly basis.

Helldivers 2 is very replayable, ensuring you won’t get bored. It features tens of missions on hundreds of different planets ranging across nine difficulties. You also have the option to go solo, requiring very different strategies and a new type of gameplay. Going solo makes it much easier to be overrun compared to the normal multiplayer experience. This means you have to be stealthy, or ambush your opponent before they can call in reinforcements.

Helldivers 2 is more random than other shooter games, as you have to think more about what you’re doing, as friendly fire is always turned on, and a lot, if not most, of the stratagems you have have the ability to kill your teammates. However, this often leads to hilarious moments, like your teammate getting squished by a stratagem that you accidently threw on their shield. Helldivers 2 has a wide array of weapons, powerful support, and attacks you can call in called “stratagems”, such as orbital lasers. 

Overall, Helldivers 2 is a fun, thrilling, co-op shooter game that will have you on the edge of your seat with its intense gameplay and laughing at its funny accidental friendly fire and. If you’re searching for a fun game, or just want to try something new, Helldivers 2 is a great choice, even if you don’t like shooters or haven’t tried one before.
