Skyline’s girl’s lacrosse team is sad to be saying farewell to the class of ‘24 as they get ready to graduate. The team is doing well as the 2024 season enters conference regionals. The Skyline Girls Lacrosse team, won regionals last year and would like to keep that title to their name as they wrap up the season.
The first regional game is against Tecumseh. The girls beat Tecumseh in the regular season 15-0, and are therefore the expectation is that they will beat them again.
If they win the first regional game, the team is expected to face Mercy, who is expected to win their first regional game as well. Mercy beat Skyline, 15-10 on April 26th in the regular season game, so this will be a big game to prepare for.
The seniors have stepped up to make this one last good season with the Skyline girls lacrosse team. Cami Wiseman (‘24) has averaged 3-7 goals per game, helping the seniors go out with a bang. “Next year there will be a big shift,” said Gabi Arocha (‘26), “especially with leadership because a lot of our seniors right now are really good leaders both in practices and in games.”
The presence of the current senior class will be missed more than just on the field. “it will feel like there is a piece gone from the team once they graduate,” said Arocha.
This has been a very sentimental season for all the seniors, as many of them have been with the team since they were freshmen. “I’m really sad to be leaving the team next year,” says Lilly Shannon (‘24). “Skylax is a family I’ve been a part of for my past four years….Knowing that this will be my last season has encouraged me to focus in on the season and work hard. Being both a senior and captain, I feel a lot of pressure during games.”
The class of ‘24 has attempted to step up and make it one of their best. “We will need some stronger leadership to step up and fill the shoes of the senior class,” said coach Catie Lelli. “I think electing captains that will be strong leaders will help keep our team bond.”
Teammates are excited to see what the seniors will do next. “I’m excited to see what their future holds for them,” said Lelli. “They are a strong group of leaders and will make a huge difference in the world one day.”
