Dear 9th grade me,
I know you’re not that nervous about high school and you think everything is going to be the same from middle school. Spoiler alert: it’s not. No matter how much you worry about having a perfect freshman year, everything wrong that you think wouldn’t happen, ends up happening.
There are situations that come up that you wouldn’t have even thought would be possible. Those friends that you thought you could count on forever won’t be there for you in a few months. That guy you’ve always liked won’t give you the time of day anymore.
But, you end up making friendships that you never saw coming, yet meeting them makes everything make sense. You learn from the hardships and promise yourself to never make the same mistakes when you get older.
Try not to not worry about everything. Take one day at a time. There are still good things happening, even when there is a lot of negative going on. There are some things that are going to come up that you think you have to worry about, but in the end, it turns out to not be that deep.
There are some things that you could work harder on and try harder for. For instance, your grades or even your clubs. It’s going to take a minute for you to manage high school, but your grades don’t need to reflect that. Talk to your teachers and ask for help if you need it.
It’s ok to do clubs even with having a sport all the time. It’s ok to not do track if you really don’t want to. Cross Country will be one of the best choices, and it’s going to get hard and frustrating, but you’ll meet some of the best people ever.
Everyone says that the last few months fly by and they really do. Talk to your teachers as much as you can and listen to what they have to say. Talk to a lot of different people and learn from their perspective. Soak in every moment and understand that everything might not be ok right now, but eventually everything is going to be ok.
Love,
