Dominating the Field: The Skyline’s Women’s Lacrosse Team
The Skyline Women’s lacrosse team has emerged this year as an exceptional team, making waves with their performances on the field. Under the leadership of Coach Catie Lelli and Captains Dylan Schuler (‘23), Sydney Bryant (‘23), and Reagan Masek (‘24), the 2023 team has reached new heights and set their sights on a state championship. “I truly think we have a chance at making it to States,” said Schuler.
The varsity team has started their season strong, gaining an impressive 4-0 record, with wins over Novi, Livonia Stevenson, Flint Powers, Dexter, and Huron. These victories are due to the team’s hard work and dedication, putting in two-hour practices five days a week to hone their skills and perfect their plays. “We are really pushing ourselves on and off the field,” said Masek. Coach Lelli’s experience and expertise has been instrumental in guiding the team to success, instilling in them the values of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork.
With a roster of exceptional athletes, including four players who have already committed to playing sports at the collegiate level, Schuler (rowing), Bryant (hockey), Coco Courtright (field hockey, ‘24), and Cami Wiseman (field hockey, ‘24), it is no wonder that this team rises to the top. Masek attributed part of their success to “team bonds like never before.”
One of the team’s strengths is their balanced offense, with almost half of the team contributing to the score sheet. Schuler, Courtright, Wiseman, Masek, Lily Shannon (‘24), and Cassie Liske(‘23) hold the majority of the team’s goals, showcasing their skills in finding the back of the net. Additionally, Bryant, the team’s goalie, is a force to be reckoned with, earning all-state honorable mention recognition last year for her outstanding performance in the net.
The Skyline Women’s lacrosse team has also gained recognition in the rankings, currently holding the third spot in Division 2. They are aiming to rise to the top spot in the coming weeks, setting their sights on challenging cross-town rivals, Pioneer. The team’s unwavering commitment to excellence, both on and off the field, is evident in their performance and dedication to their sport.
We can’t wait to see what the rest of the season will bring! Fans can catch the big game against Pioneer on Monday, May 8.
