Going into the 2024-25 winter basketball season, the Skyline Men’s Varsity Basketball team is ready and coming in hot. One of the star players on this team is the forward Noah Silkworth (‘25).
Silkworth was born in Florida, and moved to Michigan when he was eight. Basketball has shaped Silkworth into a competitive person, on and off of the court.
“[My favorite part of basketball is that] I can play with all my friends,” said Silkworth. “I’ve been playing with them for like…seven, eight years.”
Silkworth started his basketball career at Forsythe Middle School as a forward in Ann Arbor. “All my friends were trying out in middle school for Forsythe,” said Silkworth. “[I joined] mostly just because all my friends were and I thought it would be…really cool to play with all [of them].”
Silkworth has played multiple team sports for Skyline. They have helped him with the teambuilding and mindset necessary to play basketball, as well as increasing athletic capacity. “I played soccer a lot, and…I just played football for the first time this year,” said Silkworth. “They were both really fun….I think that really helped the basketball too.”
An NBA player that inspires Silkworth is Mavericks point guard Kyrie Irving. “I would definitely say an inspiration would probably be Kyrie Irving. …He does a lot,” said Silkworth. “Especially with him and his dad, he has a really good relationship with him….and I like looking at that. It gives me motivation.”
Basketball has shaped Silkworth into a competitive person, on and off of the court, in daily life and other sports. “I would say [basketball] definitely keeps me busy, you know.” said Silkworth “And I always want to compete now.”
Last season the team had 13 wins and 11 losses, placing them around the middle of their division. Silkworth has expressed his excitement for the upcoming season, as the roster is full of ambitious players.
